Hello ASWUU Family and Friends,
My name is Carli Harlow. In July I became the president of the Board of Trustees for the All Souls Waccamaw Unitarian Universalist Congregation. First off, allow me to thank Matt Harlow, our outgoing president, for being an inspirational leader as he guided this church through some conflicting times. I also want to thank the members of this board-Jim Grant, Barb Landrum, Chuck Wimberley and Frank Arico for working with me to bring the ASWUU mission forward.
I must admit, I am a bit overwhelmed by my new role, but I am committed to doing my best to promote growth in the church, in spirituality, in numbers, in fundraising and in Community involvement.
This upcoming church year, thanks to the tireless efforts of our new Worship Coordinator, Bob Clegg, we have a schedule of services as varied as our many points of view. There is truly something for everyone in the upcoming months, and if it is anything like our summer series, this year will be truly uplifting.
In this New Year ASWUU finds itself at a crucial point in our development. We are low in both membership and incoming church revenue. In order to survive, ASWUU needs to find more creative ways to extend the meaning of Unitarian Universalism to the public. In the past, this was done by undertaking social outreach events to get our name and mission out. Unfortunately, as our numbers have dwindled, so have our opportunities to get known. The only question now is: how do we build our beloved Community? I am asking YOU, our small but diverse congregation, to work with me in bringing wanderers, worshippers and lovers of leaving to our fellowship.
I would like to encourage members to think of ways they could help increase our membership, bring their ideas to the Board of Trustees, and help implement those ideas. I have many fundraising ideas but need some help in moving forward with them.
I will try to become more accessible to you and together I am confident that we can restore our visibility to a public that I believe needs to know about us.
In Fellowship and Service,
Carli Harlow
