Hello ASWUU Family and Friends,
I can’t believe it is the middle of February already! It seems so much has happened in the past 6 weeks. We have had some wonderful, diverse speakers and services here for Sunday services thanks to the networking and dedication of our Worship Coordinator, Bob Clegg. Bob has many varied speakers and services scheduled in the next few months. I am looking forward to hearing about different topics and welcome anyone to go to Bob with ideas for future services, speakers, and/or music. He also welcomes comments about what you enjoy about our services, or anything that doesn’t work for you.
I am very enthusiastic about our slowly growing numbers each weekend. It seems that this new year has brought some new seekers. We welcome them with open hearts and minds. I encourage all of you to bring a friend (or two) one weekend. Leave some ASWUU cards with someone you cross paths with. You never know who may want or need our Beloved Community.
We have many opportunities for community outside of our Sunday Services and are great ways to cultivate friendships, enjoy each other’s company and perhaps learn something new. Here is a partial list of activities open to members and friends:
1st Saturday: Crafternoon 11am-1pm hosted by Carli Harlow
1st Friday: Film Fest 6:30pm hosted by Jim Grant
2nd Saturday: Reiki Share 11am-1pm Hosted by Lisa Jacobs and Carli Harlow
2nd Friday: Game Night 6:30pm hosted by Matt Banta
These are all offered at the church and open to all. Check the calendar in the kitchen or see the above members for more information. Also, be sure to sign up in the kitchen for the return of “Circle Dinners” hosted at members homes. If you are interested in hosting a dinner, please see Linda Miller for more information.
Our first fundraiser for the new year was a success! We held “Sips, Soups and Sweets” on February 15th. It was a fun evening of wine tasting paired with Soups, Stews and desserts. We hope to make it an annual event! Some more fundraising events in the making: a “Tea” in May, a holiday craft fair and cookie café, and publishing a church cookbook. If you are interested in helping with any of these events, please see Carli.
Many of our ASWUU members attended the President’s Day Peaceful Protest on Monday, February 17th. There were protests across the country and we hopefully let our message be known both here in Myrtle Beach and to the current administration. Please speak to Jac Starkey, Bob Clegg or Jody Feavearyear for more Social Justice participation.
In Fellowship and Service,
Carli Harlow
