Sunday, October 25, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM

This Sunday's message topic is titled, "The Upsidzes and Downsidzes of Churchsizes." The topic is not as flippant as it may sound. In terms of how they function, churches can be grouped into four main categories, according to their sizes. None of these four categories is perfect -- as human institutions, they all have their ups and downs. For a church to transition from one category to the next (either larger or smaller), its members must give up certain things they are used to, but they can look forward to new ways of being that they may view as improvements. Finally, for a church to intentionally grow into a larger size, it needs to carefully study the pros and cons (to avoid any rude surprises!), and it needs to plan strategically, financially, and spiritually so it can handle the new paradigm when it is realized.

Bob Clegg serves as worship coordinator for this congregation. Bob holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Oregon and a Master of Divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary. Bob has had four careers: he was originally a homeless person, then a respiratory therapist, then a scientist, and finally a nonprofit founder and director. Now retired, he volunteers for voluntary associations concerned with economic justice, and as treasurer for an Horry County Council candidate. He balances life by raising vegetables, making kimchi and pickled okra, riding his bicycle, travelling, and watching baseball and football with his wife Connie and their dog, Yancey. (Go, Braves!)

This week, we will sing for our opening hymn a new hymn that was written by our own Frank Arico (both tune and lyrics). Titled "Hand in Hand," Frank's hymn is a rousing number that challenges us to remain strong as a united people in the face of adversity. We look forward to the world premier of "Hand in Hand" which we will sing a few minutes into our service this Sunday!

The service will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will be available on Facebook Live. To participate remotely, go to the ASWUU Facebook page and click the Live link.

We will have our regular fellowship hour immediately following this week's service. You may bring a dish to share if you would like to do so.
