A Visit to the Cradle of Unitarianism: The Emperor's New Clothes

ASWUU member Bob Clegg shares images and stories from his recent trip to Romania, the birthplace of Unitarianism in the 1500s, where generations of free-thinkers kept faith alive under authoritarian oppression. The Reflection offers a visual journey through historic churches, schools, and seminaries, highlighting the struggles and victories of Transylvanian Unitarians across the centuries. The accompanying sermon, "The Emporer is Buck Naked," explores how truth-telling, courage, and conscience remain vital in every age -- inviting us to see clearly, speak honestly, and live with integrity in our own time.
Bob Clegg is an ASWUU member who at various times has been a homeless person, a respiratory therapist, a scientist, and a nonprofit founder and executive. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Oregon and a Masters of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary. Bob is active in the community as treasurer for an Horry County Council candidate, as a volunteer at East Carolinas Housing Organization, and as co-chair for the Economic Justice Team of South Carolina's UU Justice Alliance. He serves as worship facilitator for ASWUU. He is in the planning/recruiting stage for a nonprofit that will support "quiet angels" in economically oppressed communities who provide connections, solutions, and assistance to others. Bob and his wife Connie live near Conway with their dog, Yancey.
The service will begin at 11:00 a.m. For those who wish to participate remotely, our services are available on Facebook both in real time and subsequently as recordings. Go to the ASWUU Facebook page and click the Live link.
We will have a Coffee Hour after the service, during which the coffee and conversation are always rich. You may bring a dish or snack to share if you would like to do so.
